DomainX 2018 – A Super Domaining Show again!

Group Photo taken at DomainX 2018

And they did it again …. I attended the DomainX 2018 held at Shangri-La Hotel, New Delhi on August 5th, 2018.

It was an amazing show organized by Manmeet Pal Singh, Gaurav Kohli and the rest of their team.

Would like to quote John Ruskin here, Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of intelligent effort.

I attended DomainX last year in 2017 too.

The DomainX 2018 had an Intriguing list of Speakers lined up for the event, including – Michael Bereslavsky of DomainMagnate.com, Samiran Gupta (Head of ICANN in India), Rodney D. Ryder (IP Adviser, Government of India) and so on. I also met with representatives from various Global companies who attended the DomainX 2018 like DynaDot, GoDaddy, Connect Reseller, etc.

We all have heard and most of us have attended popular domain name industry conferences like TRAFFIC, NamesCon and DomainFest but DomainX is a first timer for a country like India and it sounds very interesting. India’s very own domain name conference!

Choosing the Right Domain Name – Each letter counts

Choosing the Right Domain Name - Each letter counts

What’s in a name? That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet – this is so admired statement made by William Shakespeare, which is definitely true in general Except for Domain Names.

A domain name is your website name. A domain name is the address where Internet users can access your website. Domain names were developed and used to identify entities on the Internet rather than using IP addresses.

A domain name can be any combination of letters and numbers, and it can be used in combination of the various domain name extensions, such as .com, .net and more.

Having said that, you do encounter some challenges when you intend to register a domain name for your business or personal use.

First problem that you encounter when you try to register a domain name – its already gone! Every domain name is unique. No two websites can have the same domain name. If someone types in www.yourdomain.com, it will go to your website and no one else’s. This problem can however be overcome thanks to the Domain Name Aftermarket websites. If the current registrant of your desired domain name wants to sell their domain name, and you find the price appropriate, you are a luck person.

Second thing that can’t be ignored in the present world is – Trademarks, Patents and Copyrights. It can be a challenge to get the domain name that you want, and it can be tempting to jump on it immediately once you find it’s available. But it’s important to consider trademarks when purchasing website domains. While it might sound counter intuitive, simply owning a domain doesn’t give you the trademark over a particular name. You may use websites like knowem.com and uspto.gov to avoid any Trademark hassles in future.

Third and most important thing that I consider is, the order in which your Words are arranged in the domain name. According to the SEO experts, your order of words makes no difference on how competitive a specific phrase is… the competitive level is what it is. Google DOES view different word orders as two different keywords, but it’s not uncommon for inversions/variants like the ones you identified to have the same search volumes, especially for longer-tail, niche queries. However, its Not recommended overly optimizing for both by trying to add/stuff both variants into the title tags, headings, body copy, etc.

Taking an example to explain with SEO in mind:

Which one you think is better between the following:

www . NewYorkLaywer . com

OR

www . LawyerNewYork . com

The way an end user’s mind works, NewYorkLawyer is a winner.

But from the SEO point of view, the actual words used in the domain name have relatively little impact on search rankings.

Crypto.com Sold, List Your Top 5 Crypto Domain Names

Crypto.com Sold, List your Crypto Domain Names

The domain name Crypto.com, whose owner Matt Blaze had been refusing the sales offers for many years, has now sold it to a cryptocurrency company called Monaco.

Monaco was founded in Switzerland in 2016, and in addition to its cards and tokens, it’s launched a mobile wallet app and an automated cryptocurrency investment system. Prior to the acquisition, Monaco used Mona.CO for its website. This domain name now forwards to its MCO white paper, which can be found at MCO.Crypto.com.

The domain name Crypto.com has been sold for reportedly a figure around $12 million.

I heard about the news one day before I came to know about this figure and while discussing it with another domainer friend, I told him a figure around $55 million considering the Hype around Crypto names these days. But when I heard $12 million, I really thought its under-sold.

Earlier, Amazon had bought three domain names related to cryptocurrency: amazonethereum.com, amazoncryptocurrency.com and, amazoncryptocurrencies.com. Amazon already owns the “amazonbitcoin.com” domain name, according to Coindesk.

So much craze around Crypto Domain names and So many sales happening since last year, for example:

CryptoBank.com Sold for $125,000 via Undeveloped

CryptoRate.com Sold for $99,888 via FoundationDomains

CryptoGame.com Sold for $85,000 via RapidNames

Check the Whois first – Don’t Jump into Decisions too fast!

Check the Whois first - Don't Jump into Decisions too fast!

This post is to express gratitude towards another blogger, Gabriel de Kadt, who wrote an article about me on his website, Qreativbox.com

The year was 2009 and the domain name was SolutionsOverseas.com.

I don’t even know the person, neither did he know me. The article was not about any good things or business deal we did, but was rather a complain he had about me that I mentioned one of his websites in my Portfolio of websites I own.

I registered the domain name SolutionsOverseas.com in 2004 and it was dropped after 2 years. But since I had developed the domain name into a website, with pages in it, it did remain in my Portfolio of websites made.

The domain name was dropped by me (not renewed) after some two years and as it seemed Gabriel happened to register the same domain name after a few years, probably 2008-2009 and when he searched for a backlink to that domain name on Google he found me claiming I build that website (a confusion over the years) and this is what he wrote in his blog regarding me:

I read this article a few years back and was surprised. But I did realize that the person has a valid point. He was not wrong at his end. So I wrote him a comment on the same article post as well as sent him an email with the same content: Continue Reading

Domain Appraisal Scam still exists!

Domain Appraisal Scam still exists!

Well this is one of the oldest online scams that has been existing since last 15 years as far as I know!

So I got an email from a person representing a company in the year 2003. The email said they are interested in one of my domain names they mentioned and would like to offer me $x,xxx for the same.

I thought thats a great news, since the domain name itself was not deserving that much, I replied I agree with the same. They replied thats great news and now all they need is a domain name valuation to show the amount is justified to their accounts department which will then release the money.

They also suggested they don’t trust the existing top valuation Private companies and they only trust an XYZ (name hidden) company for their domain name valuations. I followed the link and paid around $200 for the valuation. The result came in 2 hours saying my domain was worth $xx,xxx.

I forwarded the domain name valuation appraisal report to them. And here I am today, no reply from them even after 13 years, its 2018 now!

So here is how it works:

– You get an email out of the blue from someone who wants to buy your domain name. Not only that, but their opening offer is a good $x,xxx. Sweet!

– Don’t get too excited yet. The person offering you that huge chunk of change might be a scammer.

– The domain name appraisal scam has been active for many years, which unfortunately means it’s working. The scammer preys on your excitement about a big payday, only to get you to part with your own cash. Continue Reading

GDPR – How it affects a Domainer

GDPR - How it affects a Domainer

GDPR is a European regulation that aims to strengthen protections for the use and storage of individuals’ personal data.

GDPR requires that companies manage personal data in a certain way – and this can have a significant implications for people who deal in domain names.

The biggest impact of GDPR on domain names affects those that use the registration details publicly listed on WHOIS for their Business strategies, Domain name outbound marketing, direct selling/offering of domain names to the domain owners and sending offers directly to the domain owners in case the domain name is not listed at the marketplace.

The European Union (EU)’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) protecting EU citizens privacy takes effect on May 25, 2018. So far, so good. Who doesn’t like privacy? But, many groups, including Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which manages the Domain Name System (DNS), are completely unprepared for the new laws.

So, why does that matter to you? It matters because ICANN also runs the WHOIS public database of domain name owners. Everyone with any web domain must register not only their domain, but their names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. Continue Reading

How to start making money with Domaining

How to Make Money From Your Domain Name

While everyone wants to earn money (yes, everyone), we always keep looking for legit ways of making money.

A rule of thumb that I follow is when I purchase a domain name I have to believe that I can flip it for a 100% profit.

So if I spend $200 on a domain I need to feel like I can sell it for no less than $400. This way, even if I’m wrong in my estimation I still have some room to still turn a profit.

Honestly, domain flipping is one of my most successful channels of income when it comes to the internet marketing world. It’s also one of the easiest in my opinion.

Buying a good domain name and selling it over time is a common way for domain investors to turn a profit. Most good domain names are already registered and the ones that aren’t have to be developed from the ground up.

If you are looking into domains that are currently registered, you have a few options to consider: Continue Reading

Why we love Domaining

Why we love Domaining

1. Extremely cheap barrier to entry

With registration fees at approximately $9 per domain name not many can say they cannot afford to get in the domain game. Back in 2000 we stumbled on an expired domain, one that no one really wanted. It sounded OK to us and as we bought many, we decided to spend $15 back then and purchase it as well. Since then this one domain has made over 1 millions US$ in PPC revenues, and is still going strong.

2. Residual income

Unlike traditional jobs where one gets paid by the hour, our work lasts longer. If you found a domain that gets type-in traffic you are most likely to reap the rewards for as long as it receives traffic.

3. We can do our work from anywhere

All that is required is a computer and an internet connection. Hack, you don’t really need your own computer, many cybercafes/public libraries will do.

4. Knowledge is everywhere, and mostly, for free

Lot of Free websites to learn from – NamePros, Facebook Domain Name Network, blogs such as The Domains, Dot Weekly, Namebio.com, DN Journal, and of course Domaining.com.

5. We’re open for business 24/7

Self explanatory. In addition, we have very little overhead as most of the work, once a domain has been acquired and set correctly is automatic and falls on parking providers or affiliate partners, rather than us. Continue Reading

To Drop or Not to Drop?

To Drop Domain Name or Not to Drop?

Every Domain Investor lands up in a common situation at one time of the Year – To Drop or Not to Drop!

Yes its the time for your Domain Name Renewals and you have to make a decision by seeing its performance in terms of parking (if you are using Domain Parking) or the number of Inquiries or page visits you received within the last whole year.

Well the formula says Renew the Decent ones and Drop the ones that are Crappy. Because you always have new ideas and new terms popping up in mind and in Daily News, so you need to make a wise decision – to Renew the old ones Or Invest the same money on new Domains and give them a chance for a complete new year.

But the bigger problem is that many people can’t distinguish whether a domain name is decent or crappy. The great ones are obvious to most, but some people have problems where they believe a domain name is Great and has value, when in fact, nearly everyone else would say it sucks.

Its always better to own Few domain names that are really worth the investment, than to register a thousand average and below average domain names. At least if you need liquidity, it will be easier to get cash by selling ONE name than by trying to sell your thousand domain names! Continue Reading
